The Challenges So Many Young Dancers Face
At some point, many dancers reach a stage where progress feels harder — and it’s rarely because they don’t love dance or aren’t trying. For dancers, this can show up as a loss of confidence after disappointing results or frequent corrections, feeling unmotivated when improvement seems slow or unclear, putting in consistent effort without seeing the progress they hoped for, struggling to keep up with classmates, or feeling frustrated when their body doesn’t respond the way they expect.
Physically, this often shows up as tightness and limited flexibility, a lack of strength through the core and supporting muscles, and challenges with balance, control, and alignment. Dancers may find it difficult to perform fundamental skills such as kicks, leaps, turns, extensions, and jumps, or notice they can complete a movement once but struggle to repeat it consistently or smoothly in motion. Over time, these challenges can affect confidence and enjoyment and, for some dancers, lead to doubts about continuing something they once loved.
The Frustration Parents Feel Behind the Scenes
For parents, the experience is different — but just as real. Many mums share that they feel overwhelmed by mixed or conflicting advice, unsure of what their child actually needs next, disheartened after investing in programs that didn’t bring the results they hoped for, and concerned they might be making the wrong choices for their child’s future.
For Dancers, It Can Feel Like:
Losing confidence after disappointing results or frequent corrections Feeling unmotivated when improvement seems slow or unclear Putting in effort but not seeing the progress they hoped for Struggling to keep up with classmates
Feeling frustrated when their body doesn’t respond the way they expect
Physically, this often shows up as:
Tightness and limited flexibility

A lack of strength through the core and supporting muscles

Challenges with balance, control, and alignment

Difficulty performing fundamental skills like kicks, leaps, turns,
extensions, and jumps

Being able to perform a move once, but not consistently or smoothly in motion
Over time, these challenges can affect confidence and enjoyment, and for some dancers, lead to doubts about continuing something they once loved.
Common Barriers We Hear
“We’ve tried other programs and nothing has really changed.”
“I don’t have the expertise to know what’s missing.”
“We don’t have access to specialist studios or teachers nearby.”
“We don’t have the time for extra travel and classes.”
“We don’t have the right equipment at home.”
Above all, parents want reassurance — clarity, direction, and confidence that they’re genuinely supporting their child in the best possible way.

Meet Lucinda
I’m a former professional dancer, RAD-registered teacher, qualified PDHPE teacher, and the founder of VR The Movement. I help young dancers build the strength, flexibility, and confidence they need to feel proud of their progress.
I wasn’t naturally strong or flexible growing up — so I understand exactly what it feels like to work hard, try your best, and still feel stuck. I also know how frustrating that can be for both dancers and parents.
The truth is, most dance schools simply don’t have the time to slow down and teach the deep fundamentals. Classes move fast. There’s choreography to learn, exams to prepare for, and very little space to focus on the technique, strength foundations, and flexibility training dancers truly need.
That’s where my programs come in.
After training at Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy and The Australian Ballet School, dancing professionally with The Washington Ballet, completing my Royal Academy of Dance qualification, and teaching for more than 12 years, I’ve developed a clear, supportive way of teaching that makes everything easier to understand.
I break movements down, help dancers feel what their bodies should be doing, and give them the tools to improve safely, consistently, and with confidence.
VR The Movement is a place where dancers feel supported, encouraged, and genuinely cared for.

Your child won’t get lost in the crowd. I’m here to guide them, believe in them, and help them achieve real progress they can see, feel, and be proud of.
